Cynthia Rankin Ward
Lifetime Achievement Award
Cynthia Rankin Ward has spent more than four decades walking alongside individuals and families as a trusted guide, advocate, and voice of compassion. With over 42 years of experience in social work, she has become a pillar of support for countless lives across Central Ohio.
Today, Cynthia serves as a Social Worker with OhioHealth Wellness on Wheels, where she provides critical care and emotional support to pregnant women and individuals navigating complex life circumstances. Her work is rooted in empathy and empowerment, ensuring that every client feels seen, heard, and valued. In addition to her role at OhioHealth, Cynthia is the Clinical Director of H2O (Helping to Overcome Systems), a behavioral health agency dedicated to dismantling barriers and building pathways to healing for underserved communities.
Cynthia’s passion for service runs deep — a legacy inherited from her father, the late Professor John R. Rankin, a revered historian and educator from Bluefield, West Virginia. Inspired by his commitment to knowledge and justice, Cynthia pursued her own path in social work, earning a Master’s Degree in Social Work from West Virginia University. She is a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) and a lifelong learner who believes in the power of community-based care.
Outside of her professional life, Cynthia is a vibrant presence in her community. She is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., where sisterhood and service go hand in hand. Her faith is central to her life — she finds joy and strength in her women’s Bible study group and in serving at New Salem Baptist Church.
Cynthia is also a proud mother to A Jay Pullen, a local entrepreneur and community activist whose work reflects the same spirit of advocacy she embodies. At home, she cherishes time with her husband Rodney and their beloved dog Bailey, finding peace and purpose in the simple joys of family, faith, and fellowship.
